Tennessee Conservation Voters is pleased to present our 2021 Legislative Impact Summary. Because of your support, we made significant progress in this year’s legislative session.
- TCV worked collaboratively with several groups on plastics and litter. We made great progress on focusing our state legislators and the TN Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) on preventing plastics and litter in our waterways and public areas. TACIR will present an important and objective study on plastics and litter that we believe will be a serious step forward in improving the environment for all Tennesseans.
- TCV partnered with Representative Bob Freeman (D) and Senator Paul Rose (R) to pass their Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resilience bill which passed and became law. This new law is a significant step forward in encouraging clean energy in Tennessee by providing an easier way for businesses to finance clean energy improvements.
- TCV stopped bills that would have eroded open meetings laws that would have limited citizen participation in local government and utility commissions.
- TCV worked in close collaboration with many of our member groups and helped stop the reduction of stormwater fees which would have hurt local governments’ ability to properly manage stormwater.
TCV continued to be the only environment group regularly physically present at the General Assembly. We continue to distribute weekly legislative updates to over 1,000 interested advocates and, for many, we are their only access to policy information.
Lastly, TCV continued to host weekly bill review sessions and distribute weekly key bill calendars and calls to action on important environmental challenges and opportunities.
